Nominate your unsung hero for Mayor's award

IT’S that time of year again when the borough’s unsung heroes are recognised by the Mayor of Dudley.

The Mayor’s Civic Awards has been showcasing the dedication of some of the borough’s residents for over a decade.

And people are once again being urged to submit their nominations for the tenth anniversary – which is being marked with a new category.

This year, the awards is hosted in association with Cougar Monitoring, with borough businesses sponsoring each of the cate gories, which are named after the borough’s famous residents.

Marketing Force is sponsoring the new William Shenstone award for environment, which has been added to the accolades this year to honour the famous landscape gardener.

The other usual categories include the Duncan Edwards award for sport, sponsored by Alliance Leisure, the Cedric Hardwicke award for arts sponsored by Stourbridge College, the Frank Foley award for community spirit sponsored by Castle and Crystal Credit Union and the Thomas Attwood award for education which is sponsored by Computeach.

A sixth trophy will also be presented for the Mayor’s Award, with four people personally chosen by Mayor, Councillor Melvyn Mottram, who he feels has stood out to him during his time in office.

The public will then be able to vote online for the winner, with a judging panel deciding the other four categories.

People have until February 18 to nominate worthy residents, with winners and runners- up decided in March.

Prizes will then be presented during a civic ceremony later that month.

Nominations can be submitted online at dudley.gov.uk or by filling out the nomination form in the paper and e-edition this week and sending it to the Freepost address listed at the bottom.

Forms can also be obtained from all borough libraries.
