A BIG-HEARTED Brierley Hill businessman hopes his generosity will help to keep a Stourbridge hospice moving.
Mike Brown, owner of Dreamland Bedding in Mill Street, has been a long time supporter of Mary Stevens Hospice and has donated £85,000 towards a host of the charity’s development projects.
His latest gift to the cause was a £10,000 Ford Transit van to replace one of the hospice’s ageing delivery vehicles.
Simon Henwood, hospice business manager, thanked the benevolent businessman for his latest donation, adding: “Mike very kindly collects his delivery charges and then uses the cash to help us out.
“His latest donation has enabled us to put our oldest van in the fleet on reduced duties.”
Mr Brown, known as Mike The Bed, said: “This is the third van we’ve supplied and we’ve also raised a lot of money over the years through donations from customers.
“It’s worked out very well, the community has got behind it - it’s been very good and we’re still raising a lot of money towards future hospice projects.
“I prefer supporting local charities rather than national ones, you know where the money’s going and you can see where it’s being spent.”
