A SEDGLEY teenager has been named runner up in St John Ambulance’s Regional Cadet of the Year competition, at a prestigious event attended by HRH The Princess Royal.

Jenny Littler, aged 16, met HRH, who is Commandant-in-Chief (Youth) for St John Ambulance at the Regional Cadet of the Year and Youth Award Ceremony in Birmingham.

Jenny, who is also District Cadet of the Year for the Central District, covering Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley and Birmingham, said: “It was a fantastic experience and something we will never forget.

"I feel very proud to have been able to meet The Princess Royal and to have the opportunity to take part in this prestigious competition. I’ve learned so much since joining St John Ambulance ten years ago and I’d recommend it to anyone. First aid really can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved”.

There are 26,000 cadets in the country, with 2,548 in the West Midlands.

Aged from 10 to 17 cadets learn vital first aid as well as a wide range of skills as they work towards the Grand Prior award – which is the highest award a Cadet can achieve.
