A NURSE at Russells Hall Hospital has been crowned ‘Ward Sister of the Year’ in a prestigious national award ceremony.

Sara Davies, who runs the Acute Medical Unit, picked up the title at the Nurse Awards 2013 at a glittering event at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.

Receiving her award from the Chief Nursing Officer of England, Jane Cummings and event host and television presenter Fiona Phillips, the audience heard how Sara, who has been at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust since 2002, has turned around an under-performing medical ward making it a much better place for patients and staff.

Director of Nursing for The Dudley Group, Denise McMahon said: “This award recognises inspirational ward leaders who excel in delivering safe, high quality patient care.

“We are all so proud of Sara and this achievement. It is a real honour and so well deserved.

“These awards celebrate people who do extraordinary things and they inspire the new generation of young nurses to dedicate themselves to the most privileged profession of nursing.”
