Borough choirs team up for spring concert

TWO popular Black Country choirs are joining forces to present a spring concert in Dudley next month.

The Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir and Viva Musica will be performing at Dudley Town Hall on Saturday March 29 from 7.30pm.

Both borough based groups are known locally and nationally for their performances at major concert halls, churches and community centres - and both have travelled on concert tours across Europe and beyond.

The Kingswinford based all-male Gentlemen Songsters, founded in 1957, comprises about 73 members – while Netherton based mixed voice choir Viva Musica, founded in Dudley in 1989, comprises about 70 voices.

Both perform classical, religious, modern and popular choral music plus hits by artists such as Queen, The Beatles, Elvis Presley as well as popular tunes from West End musicals.

The concert, presented by Michael Collie of BBC Midlands Today, offers a rare chance to see both groups sharing the stage where they will perform both individual and joint items throughout the evening.

Proceeds from the event will be split between good causes being supported by the two choirs this year.

Viva Musica are helping Parkinson’s UK, and the Gentlemen Songsters are supporting the Mayor of Dudley’s charities (the White House Cancer Support in Dudley and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People).

Tickets for the concert are available from Viva Musica on 01384 371388, Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir on 01384 838863, Dudley Council Plus on 01383 812812 or online at www.dudley.gov.uk/entertainment
