A MAN wanted by police for alleged robberies in Gornal has been detained after a dramatic rooftop standoff.

Gavin Reilly was being hunted for a number of offences at shops and petrol stations across the Black Country where cigarettes were stolen.

He was arrested at an address in Bridge Street, Tipton, on February 8 by officers who were executing a warrant to find a suspect in connection with the theft of a van.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “After entering the address the 25-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.

“Officers encountered a second man at the location who ran from police and fled to the roof of a nearby building. He was identified as 34-year-old Gavin Reilly.

“After climbing onto the roof he threw tiles at officers on the ground before they talked him down and he was arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken into custody.”
