Black Country blues star Ian Parker to play at Walter Trout benefit concert
10:46am Tuesday 29th April 2014 in Local
STOURBRIDGE singer-songwriter Ian Parker is among musicians taking part in a benefit concert for blues star Walter Trout this Sunday (May 4) in London.
The gig, taking place at Shepherd's Bush Empire, has been organised to help raise money to pay for a liver transplant for Walter who has graced the stage at Ian's favourite venue The Robin 2 at Bilston on many occasions.
Friends, family and music fans are trying to raise $250,000 to help pay for the transplant and aftercare.
The American blues guitarist and singer, who is married with three sons, does have health insurance but it will not cover the full cost of the care needed.
Blues and roots musician Ian said: "It's great to see the blues community coming together to help Walter at this time."
He added: "Walter helped me and countless other young blues musicians to get established, which is why so many people want to help raise funds for a liver transplant he needs urgently."
Ian continued: "Walter helped me to become established by recommending me to Ruf Records and then taking me out on tour around Europe with him as a support act. He is an incredibly generous and warm man whose work ethic and commitment to the blues I have always admired.
"I'm sure the gig will attract a good crowd and raise the money needed to help Walter. There are some great acts performing and I'm especially looking forward to meeting up and perhaps jamming with my friend Bernie Marsden of Whitesnake."
The gig will also feature performances by Otis Grand, Stevie Smith, Danny Bryant, Marcus Malone, Mitch Laddie, Laurence Jones and the Flamingo Club All Stars House Band and others.
Tickets are available from ticketweb.co.uk or by calling 0844 477 2000.
