A COURT has been told a Lower Gornal man became a drug dealer after discovering his partner was having an affair.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Brett Stanfield became "depressed and demotivated" at the end of his six year relationship and started taking the controlled drug.

The 26-year-old then lost his labouring job and because he could not afford to buy cocaine he started selling the drug from his home.

He was making £1,000 a week from drug dealing but was rumbled when a neighbour complained to police about his customers continually parking their cars outside the property.

Jonathan Barker, for Stanfield, said his client was glad to be arrested because it meant he would no longer have to be involved in the drug world to fuel his own addiction.

Mr Barker said: "Rather than seek help when his relationship ended he became withdrawn and isolated, that is when he turned to cocaine and started using the drug himself."

Stanfield, of Sudeley Gardens, admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply and was jailed for 30 months.

He was told by Recorder Abigal Nixon: "This is an extraordinary case. Rarely do the courts see someone who is so frank with the police and demonstrating a real motivation to turn their back on drugs."

She added: "Your exceptional honesty points to a real motivation to free yourself of drugs. Your behaviour in a way has been totally out of character."

Iain Willis, prosecuting, said that over a ten week period Stanfield made £10,000 selling cocaine but he was arrested because of the large number of cars calling at his home.

When police went to the property they found two bags containing cocaine together with a dealer's list.

Stanfield, who had no previous convictions relating to drugs, then admitted he had spent the money on mini breaks, nights out and hotels.
