SOCIAL media fans will be able to follow the progress of a £6.7million redevelopment project in Dudley.

Dudley Council has unveiled a LinkedIn showcase page to keep people up-to-date with the current phases of the regeneration of Dudley town centre and the new multi-million pound market place.

The page can be found by searching for ‘a new market place for Dudley town centre’ on LinkedIn - a business-oriented social networking service.

Once followed, users can like, share and comment on posts about the project.

Councillor Judy Foster, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We’re very proud of the work we’re doing in Dudley town centre and we want as many people to be able to see what’s happening and when.

“The showcase page gives people an opportunity to keep up to date with where we are at and be a part of something special in our town.”

The town centre plans feature work right through Dudley’s historic market place from the junction with High Street, through Castle Street to the junction of Castle Hill.

When complete it will include a newly designed market featuring new stalls, paving, feature lighting and street furniture.

The scheme will also involve moving the public toilets to pave the way for the landmark Duncan Edwards statue to be repositioned.

The historic fountain will also be restored and the Earl of Dudley statue will be reset within a raised lawn.

New public toilets will be created in a shop unit in 256 Castle Street before the current public toilet block is demolished to open up the view of the full market place.

The design of the market place stalls will also incorporate artwork and clocks and improvements to the medieval passages in the conservation area of the town centre including Green Man Entry, Long Entry and Rutland Passage.
