COMMUNITY spirit is high in Upper Gornal where people have acted to save a closure-threatened family fun event.
Dudley Mayor Margaret Aston will be on hand to open the Upper Gornal Fun Day at Vale Street Recreation Centre on Saturday July 12.
Organisers feared a lack of volunteers would mean the end of the event after last year’s show but a newspaper publicity campaign brought more people forward to join the committee and save the day.
The 2014 show will run from noon to 4pm and attractions include the High Arcal School Band, bouncy castle, Punch and Judy, nail art, face painting, children's crafts, BBQ, a display of vintage cars and motor bikes, a raffle and various stalls.
Music and announcements will be supported by Black Country Community Radio, entrance to the show is free.
