MEMBERS of a Dudley church are gearing up for a summer fair which is set to take place on Saturday June 28.

St James’s Church, Eve Hill, will be hosting their fair from noon in the crypt of the Grade II listed building.

The fair will include a range of attractions including cakes, a raffle and tombola and lunches will be available at the free event.

St James Church dates back to the 1840s and along with its sister church, St John’s at Kates Hill, to serve the rapid growth in the town’s population during the industrial revolution.

The original church cost £3,500 to build on land donated by the Earl of Dudley, improvements carried out around 20 years later were partly funded by the first ever bazaar in Dudley, which raised £400.
