DUDLEY College’s ambitious redevelopment plans got an £8m boost to build a new construction industry college.
Work is set to start in September 2015 on the Advanced Centre for Advanced Building Technologies and Construction (CABTech) and the latest investment takes spending on new college buildings in Dudley up to a total of £50m.
The cash is from the new Black Country Growth Deal and ministers hope the new centre will provide training for thousands of people to help people take advantage of growth in the building industry created the HS2 rail link.
Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, said "The Black Country Growth Deal will help to create thousands of jobs, provide incredible new training opportunities for young people, allow thousands of new homes to be built, and improve transport links across the country for people and their families; building a stronger economy and a fairer society."
Dudley College principal, Lowell Williams, said: “We are thrilled that the government has recognised the role that Dudley College can play in the regeneration of the Black Country.
“CABTech will enable us to bring training opportunities in advanced building and construction skills to the region that will support the recovery of the construction industry and its supply chain.”
