DUDLEY’S town centre fountain is in line for a £150,000 upgrade as long as planners give the scheme a green light.
An application has been submitted for restoration of the structure, which was donated to the town by the Earl of Dudley in 1867.
The work will include restoration of water basins, new pipe work and all water will be regulated during windy days to avoid spray soaking the surrounding area.
Two statues will be restored, the missing tiered water fountain in the central archway will be recreated and coloured glass in the panels of the central dome will be reset.
Conservation repairs will also be made to the stonework and pointing including removal of the built up surface dirt to restore the natural white colour of the Portland stone. Discrete pigeon deterrents will also be installed on the ledges.
