A SEDGELY man got a grand result after a walk on the wild side along Hadrian’s Wall raised £1,000 for Alzheimer’s Society.

Bret Nightingale, aged 28, trod the 24-mile route to support the chosen charity of his employer – The West Bromwich Building Society.

The keen walker and climber, who works as a customer relations officer, was sponsored by family, friends and colleagues at the society and completed the challenge in just under ten hours.

He said: “There is currently no cure for dementia but taking on the Hadrian’s Wall Trek was my way of supporting the progress Alzheimer’s Society is making in its mission to find a cure for this devastating disease and to promote better care for the growing number of people affected by it.

:“I am really proud to have taken part in the trek and, thanks to the kindness and generosity of those who sponsored me, raised so much money for this fantastic charity.

“It was by far the toughest physical challenge I have ever done and took a lot of effort and determination to complete. There’s no doubt the overwhelming support I have received spurred me on right to the finish line.”

Ray Nash, Alzheimer’s Society’s senior regional corporate fundraising executive, said: “We congratulate Bret on his efforts and we’re really grateful to everyone at the West Brom for getting behind us so enthusiastically.

“One in three people aged over 65 will develop dementia so there is a real need for help and understanding for those living with the condition and their families and carers.”
