A DUDLEY charity is hoping online voters will use their X to mark the spot for a funding boost.

White House Cancer Support is in the running for a payout of up to £3,000 from the Lloyds Bank Community fund but will only scoop the maximum amount if it wins an internet vote.

Bosses from the Ednam Road-based charity say the cash would help pay for a therapeutic garden for patients and their families at their headquarters.

White House Cancer Support’s chief executive officer, Maxine Wragg, said: “The Lloyds Bank Community Fund will make a huge difference to White House Cancer Support by enabling us to provide this therapeutic garden in the heart of Dudley town centre.

“Hundreds of people come to the White House each year to benefit from the services we provide and being able to sit in this garden will help people to get through this difficult time in their lives.”

The White House charity was founded in 1984 and provided emotional and practical help for cancer patients and their families.

The charity is staffed by volunteers, many of whom have had their own personal battles with the disease.

The garden at the centre will provide a tranquil space designed to enable people to find peace and quiet to relieve the stress of coping with cancer.

The White House is on a shortlist of four contenders for the Lloyds Bank money which comes from a fund that has so far helped 1,400 good causes in 350 communities.

Members of the public can vote online, by SMS or Twitter, or in a branch of Lloyds bank until Friday October 10 2014.
