BRIERLEY Hill Say No tO the Waste-site action group is holding a public meeting to discuss revised plans for a massive indoor recycling centre near the town.

Clean Power last week confirmed it had submitted a second application for planning permission to build a state-of-the-art energy conversion centre on old railway land off Moor Street.

Campaigners who fought against the first application, which was refused by Dudley Council planners last summer, remain concerned about the prospect of such a facility being built on their doorstep and plan to discuss the matter further at a meeting at Hawbush Primary School, Hawbush Road, Brierley Hill, on Monday September 15 at 7.30pm.

Campaign spokesman Tim Lee said: “The agenda will include the implications of Clean Power's plans - which recently came to light as a result of sharp-eyed campaigners spotting details in an entirely separate application to the Office of Rail Regulation for a permit to transfer the site to Clean Power - to build a railhead/freight depot as well as the waste facility.

“Brierley Hill ward councillors will be attending, and, with the high level of public interest, a good turn-out is expected.”

SNOW* campaigners will also be highlighting their worries about the site to Dudley South MP Chris Kelly on Friday September 12.

Clean Power bosses say the proposed power plant “is needed so the area does not continue landfilling and burning waste” and it would ultimately create more than 30 skilled and technical jobs – with more than 150 people involved in the construction phase.
