A CHILD remains in a critical condition after being hit by a railing after a car crash at a Dudley school.

The girl, aged three, was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital on September 22 after a car collided with a fence on the community car park near Milking Bank Primary School, Aintree Way.

The child’s grandmother, aged 60, suffered a fractured leg during the incident, which happened at 3,15pm, and was taken to Russells Hall hospital.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police said: “One of the railings from the fence was damaged during the crash and hit the girl on the head causing a large cut.

"She remains in hospital in a critical condition.

“The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 70s, was voluntarily interviewed at the scene.”

Richard Mason, headteacher at Milking Bank Primary School, said: “We are extremely shocked and saddened by Monday’s incident and all of our thoughts are with the young girl and her family.

“We pride ourselves on the close-knit community we have at the school and I would like to thank all parents and school staff who responded so quickly to call an ambulance which arrived immediately and also thank all parents who have been so supportive in the response to the incident.”
