A DUDLEY Council engineer who lost his wallet containing £420 is delighted after it was returned by a Good Samaritan - with all the cash!

Andrew Garbett had saved up the money to buy Christmas presents for his partner Sabrina and their daughters, aged two and four.

But he thought his festive plans were in ruins when he lost the wallet while helping out a friend in Solihull.

That was until Sabrina took a telephone call at their Sedgley home from a man who was pleased to inform her he had found the wallet in the street.

Andrew said: “I was devastated when I found the wallet had gone, then to get this call restored my faith in human nature.

“You hear and read so many stories these days about people pocketing money that does not belong to them. It was heart warming to know there are still kind hearted people about.”

Andrew, who lives on The Northway, lost his wallet when he went to a shop to get a part he needed to carry out a repair for his friend.

He said: “I ran across the road to get back to my car and it was only when I got back to my friend’s home that I realised the wallet had fallen from my pocket.

“I honestly thought it had gone forever, then Sabrina rang me to say she had taken the call from the man who had the wallet.

“He had looked inside the wallet to get my personal details and when he found my telephone number he rang my home.”

The 36-year-old went on: “I was still in the Solihull area so I was able to ring the man myself to arrange a meeting to pick up the wallet.”

He said the man refused to take a £50 reward for his honesty and it was only when he was pressed that he accepted £25.

“If ever anyone deserved a reward for being a good citizen it was this man,” concluded Andrew. “He has guaranteed my family a very happy Christmas.”
