DUDLEY Council’s new deputy leader has spoken of his pride in council services despite tough financial times.

Cllr Stuart Turner was appointed as second-in-command at the authority following a mini re-shuffle of the authority’s cabinet.

Cllr Turner represents the Gornal ward and is cabinet member for finance. Dudley’s ruling Labour group leaders confirmed he will continue in his role as finance boss.

Cllr Turner said: “In my role as cabinet member for finance I know first-hand how difficult times are as we look to deliver services with hugely reduced budgets.

“However, I’m proud that we continue to provide excellent services for local people and I am thrilled to take on the role of deputy leader and look forward to supporting the new leader to help continue our work as a community council.”

The changes follow the unopposed election of Cllr Pete Lowe as leader of the council following the resignation of Cllr David Sparks from the top job.

Cllr Sparks is chairman of the Local Government Association and stepped aside to concentrate on his national role.

He will remain on Dudley’s cabinet as member without portfolio (Combined Authorities).

There were no other changes to cabinet jobs during the last re-shuffle.
