A BRIERLEY Hill English Defence League supporter has been jailed after clashing with police at a rally in Birmingham.

Lee Joshua, of St Mary's Court, who also filmed himself burning a copy of the Koran, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

The 43-year-old received a blow to the head and a large cut, believed to be from a police baton, after he goaded police lines by shouting and grabbing his crotch.

Birmingham Crown Court was told EDL security held him back to stop him from attacking the officers during the disorder in July 2013.

Joshua later posted a video of himself burning a Koran on Facebook, claiming it was an "evil" book.

Fellow supporter, Jake Hill, of Church Street, Stourbridge, also admitted violent disorder after he was filmed spitting in a police officers face.

The court heard that the 20-year-old was also filmed at the front of a crowd of around 300 supporters, attempting to push and shove officers trying to control the situation.

Hill, who has numerous previous convictions for violence, was jailed for two years.

The pair are the first of 52 men are due to be sentenced this month for offences linked to the disorder.
