SEDGLEY said goodbye to a military hero who served with the RAF’s legendary Dambusters 617 Squadron.
The funeral of Robert John Webb took place at All Saints’ Church, Vicar Street yesterday (December 16), the ceremony included a guard of honour from Sedgley’s Royal British Legion and the Royal Air Force Association.
He was called up for military service in 1944 aged 17 and joined 617 squadron as an airframe fitter, a year after the famous Dambusters operation.
After the end of the war Mr Webb continued his service in Cyprus, Egypt, Aden and during the Berlin Airlift of 1948/49.
Mr Webb, known as Bob, died aged 87, he is survived by his wife, Connie. The couple were married at All Saint’s Church in 1953.
