A DUDLEY woman who made a threatening call to one of the victims of a vicious attack telling him to lie about the incident has been jailed for a year.

“You had witnessed this horrific incident and you knew exactly what you were trying to cover up,” Judge John Warner told Rebecca Hill.

She witnessed the brutal attack by Martin Harris and Mark Wright and made her call 11 days later but by chance a visiting police officer heard her conversation with one of the victims.

Harris and Wright mercilessly beat up Robert Garner and Daniel Sanzone after taking a cocktail of drink and drugs, said Justin Jarmola, prosecuting.

He told Wolverhampton Crown Court the men had once all lived in a hostel and he described the behaviour of the two defendants as “gratuitous and degrading.”

Mr Jarmola said Harris and Wright first launched a frenzied attack on Mr Garner at a flat in the Merridale area of Wolverhampton and he was repeatedly punched and kicked.

At one stage Mr Garner was hit with an electric fire before the pair set upon Mr Sanzone and the two victims were then forced to strip naked and pose for a demeaning photograph.

Mr Garner suffered a double fracture to his jaw together with a broken rib and finger while Mr Sanzone sustained abrasions and bruising to his face and body.

Harris, aged 23 and 32-year-old Wright, both of Compton Road, Wolverhampton, each admitted causing grievous bodily harm and assault.

The judge jailed Harris for 10 years and nine months and Wright for nine and a half years telling them, “Your victims were tormented in a cruel and vicious way - part of which was photographed.”

Hill, of Ivanhoe Street, pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice and the judge ruled she had to go into custody because of the seriousness of the offence.
