SPORTY youngsters will be encouraged to take part in traditional competitive games at the Black Country Living Museum this half term.

The museum will have a range of outdoor games guaranteed to the heart racing with costumed demonstrators on hand to help people hop and skip their way to some old-fashioned fun from May 23-31.

Families can grab a sack and join in sports day games, knock boredom on the head and take part in some street games, including skittles, the whip and top, hoop and stick and hopscotch.

Folkes’ Park will play host to the long lost competitive sport of pedestrianism, a popular Black Country past time and visitors can find out all about rat catching, baiting, boxing and more as they take part in the Black Country sports trail.

Memorabilia from the JW Hunt Cup, an annual charity football match which has been run in the Black Country since 1926, will also be on display.

The Fizzogs will also be getting into the swing of things by getting up to their usual hilarious antics in the Fizzog Olympics on Bank Holiday Monday.
