A PENSIONER is recovering after he fought off an intruder at his home in Kingswinford.

The 88-year-old man suffered cuts to his arms as he grappled with the burglar who had forced his way in through a bedroom window at the property in Marley Road just after midnight on Sunday (26 July).

The elderly man was asleep in a chair in his living room when the crook disturbed him as he searched the room.

The resident hit out at the intruder with his walking stick and suffered his injuries during a struggle when the burglar restrained him.

Detective constable Richard Hall, from West Midlands Police, said: "The elderly man suffers with poor vision and has frail skin which tore during the struggle. Fortunately his injuries will heal and he shouldn’t suffer any long term ill effects. He is quite resilient, but it was still a shocking experience for him.

"Nothing was stolen during the break-in, but we need to catch the offender to prevent this happening to anyone else, so I am asking anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact me on 101.

"Extra security measures will be installed at the property to help protect the gentleman and make him feel safer."
