FRIENDS of a Dudley woman who lost her life to cystic fibrosis have organised a fundraising fun day in her memory.

Jodie Wheeler-Bennett, who had the life-shortening genetic disease which affects more than 10,000 people in the UK, died on September 30 last year, aged 31.

Her pals Angie Bruns, Helen McEvoy, Clare Curley, Lisa Hiscox and Donna McEvoy wanted to mark the first anniversary of her death by raising cash for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the Wolfson Cystic Fibrosis Unit in Nottingham - where Jodie was treated.

The fun day, which will take place at Wrens Nest Community Centre, Summer Road, from 11am on Saturday (October 3) will have a variety of stalls, face painting, a bouncy castle, raffle, sponsored head shave and leg wax, games, cheerleaders and a silent auction in a bid to raise £1,000.

Angie, who met Jodie in 2011 through a Facebook support group, said: "During her life, Jodie organised a series of fundraising events such as raffles, charity football matches and a sky dive in 2010 all to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

"Since Jodie died, her husband Neil has continued to organise charity football matches and golfing competitions for the trust in memory of his incredible wife.

"Her fundraising is what inspired us to arrange this day for her. This way we can keep her memory alive and have fun raising money for a fantastic cause close to all of our hearts."

Helen, who met Jodie at primary school, added: "What better way to mark what would normally have been a sad day than to turn it into a positive and honour her life this way."
