JAMES Austin, who represented Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games, is running a free martial arts event in Brierley Hill to promote sports and physical activity for people experiencing mental health problems.

Dudley Mind is one of eight organisations delivering Get Set to Go, England's first large scale programme using sport to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems.

The martial arts event, the latest in a series of free taster sports sessions offered by the charity, will give people the opportunity to try out kickboxing, karate, judo and yoga in a safe, friendly and relaxed environment.

Taster session will take place from 1pm to 3pm, at Inspire Gym, Canal Street, on Tuesday (October 6) and is open to anyone interested in finding out how to use sport to improve their mental wellbeing.

James said: “Martial arts are a great way for people to get active and can help give a huge boost to your confidence.

"Exercising with others can have even greater impact as it provides an opportunity to strengthen social networks, talk through problems with others or simply laugh and enjoy a break from family and work."

Dudley Mind is working with local sports providers and volunteers to offer weekly sport based groups where people can try something new and get more active.

Current groups include Tai Chi, football, swimming, golf, yoga and group exercise classes.
