MOURNERS have laid flowers at the spot where a man was tragically killed after being hit by a car in Netherton.

The 53-year-old, named locally as Gary Wroblewski, was found critically injured near to an abandoned car that had crashed into a billboard on Cradley Road at around 11.30pm on Friday (November 6).

He died at the scene, despite the best efforts of passers-by who performed CPR at the roadside until paramedics arrived.

Police arrested a 19-year-old local man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but he has since been bailed.

"At this time we believe that the man was a pedestrian who was hit by the car, however I need to consider every possibility" said Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Collision Investigation Unit.

"Checks on the silver grey Seat Ibiza have revealed that the abandoned car was uninsured and unregistered.

"As part of the investigation the car has been seized for an extensive forensic analysis.

"We’re also undertaking work to understand more about its history.

"With this in mind, it’s vital that anyone who has recently used the car but wasn’t involved in the fatal crash to get in touch."

He added: "I’d also appeal directly to the person who was driving the car at the time to come forward. He or she is likely to be very shocked and this is a big secret to keep.

"They didn’t to the right thing at the time but they can start now by calling me."

The three-door silver grey Seat Ibiza has large black alloys and a black roof.

Its registration number is LR08 BGE.

Anyone who has used the car or anyone who has seen the vehicle regularly parked outside a neighbour’s house should call Sgt Hughes on 101.
