A DUDLEY man has admitted he had an “unhealthy” interest in children after being caught with sickening indecent photographs and films of youngsters.

Darren Baker said he got sexual gratification from the images but told police he was hoping he would be arrested because he “realised what he was doing was wrong.”

At Wolverhampton Crown Court, Judge Nicholas Webb told the 36-year-old it was clear most of the images he downloaded were in the worst category and they depicted very young children being abused.

He added there was not a large number of images but enough to cause concern to the authorities.

The judge told Baker: “I think it is clear from information that you are also concerned about these images.”

The stills and movies, he said, had been in the possession of Baker between October 2012 and June 2013 but he had not been arrested until 2014.

Judge Web said: “The court therefore concludes that for some reason you stopped accessing these images before the police attended your home and confiscated your computer equipment.”

He told Baker, of Wrens Hill Road: “There has already been some recognition by you of your problems.”

Baker admitted six charges of making indecent images of children, he was placed on supervision for three years with a condition he attends the Sex Offenders Treatment Programme.

He was further told he must register as a sex offender for five years, made the subject of a five year Sexual Harm Protection Order and told to pay £200 costs.

Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said police officers went to Baker’s home and found just one still was accessible on his computer while others had been deleted.

There had been 44 stills of which 21 were in the worst category and 161 films of which 86 were In the worst possible category.

When questioned, Baker said he had developed an interest in pornography and that he had had an unhealthy interest in children.

Stephen Hamblett, for Baker, described his client as a “sad and sorry” man as he maintained the best course of action for the court was to provide him with help an assistance.
