BLACK Country MPs Margot James and Mike Wood have expressed support for the Prime Minister's bid to seek backing to bomb Islamic State targets in Syria.

David Cameron told the Commons the Paris terrorist attacks had strengthened the case for air strikes in the war-torn country and both Ms James, MP for Stourbridge, and Mr Wood, MP for Dudley South, have indicated they would back the proposed dropping of bombs in a bid to keep Britain safe.

Ms James said: "I am in favour of Britain joining with international partners in extending our air strikes from Iraq to Syria. ISIS is a grave threat to world peace and, in its barbarism, it is a truly satanic force that must be confronted by the rest of humanity."

While Mr Wood said: "There's a clear need to take strong and effective action, but this would be limited action. We’re not looking at putting troops on the ground; just air strikes to take out key Isis recruitment, training and other infrastructure. I think we have a responsibility to do everything we can to stop more lives being ruined by these vicious terrorists.

He added: "Seven terrorist attacks in Britain have been foiled in the last six months. That outlines the threat that already is in the UK – it’s so important we do everything we can to make sure public areas are as safe as they can be. It’s also important that security services have the resources they need to stop these attacks."

Mr Cameron has promised British air strikes against IS will not be extended into Syria without Parliament's consent. A previous vote on the matter was rejected by MPs in 2013.
