TEENS can spin the decks, play computer games and test their table tennis skills at a Dudley youth club.

Thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, the Friday night club at Lower Gornal Youth Centre has opened its doors once again.

Previously run by cash-strapped Dudley Council, the club was forced to close last summer due to funding cuts.

The future looked bleak but a group of determined parents got in touch with Dudley Council for Voluntary Service to see how they could save the popular club.

Things quickly snowballed and after forming a committee, they were able to successfully apply for a £4,000 start-up grant from Dudley's Community Forum, recruit and train more volunteers and reopen every Friday from 7-9pm.

The club now has 30 young members and is open to anyone in school years seven to 11 but volunteer, Lisa Blackham, said they are looking for new recruits to join in the fun.

She said previous sessions have included a pizza party and MAC makeovers and there is also a variety of sports equipment and a pool table to keep youngsters entertained.

Admission costs 50p, with all proceeds being put back into the tuck shop.
