POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a crash near to the Black Country Museum yesterday.

On Friday, May 20, a Jaguar and a heavy goods vehicle collided on the Birmingham New Road, Tipton just after 10.30pm.

Despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, the 52-year-old passenger of the Jaguar was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was treated in hospital for head injuries and remains in a stable condition. The driver of the HGV was uninjured.

Police Constable Chris Ridge, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We have spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene of the collision but I would urge anyone who saw what happened to contact us on 101. We need to establish how a man has lost his life and another is in hospital.

"The family of the men, who live in Slough, have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"Our thoughts remain with them at this sad time."

The road remained closed for several hours while emergency services cleared the scene but has now been reopened.
