A DUDLEY foster mum has raised £2,500 for White House Cancer Support by trekking the Indian Himalayas.

Sharon Blake trained for 18 months before conquering the world’s highest mountain range.

She spent 10 days covering 103 miles across tough terrain, camping in basic shelters en route to raise funds for the Dudley charity.

The 53-year-old said: “I became familiar with the charity’s work through a family member and know they do brilliant work across the Black Country, so I was delighted with the final amount I raised.”

Sharon, who lives in Blackacre Road, self-funded the trip to India at a cost of £2,060, which made her even more determined to complete the trek.

She continued: "It was hard going at times and I certainly couldn’t have done it without the support of my family and husband Darron, who was an absolute rock when I was training and planning the journey.”

Sharon trained on Snowdonia and the Malvern Hills prior to the trip in April, and has since boosted the final total with raffles, tombolas, a charity evening and a bake-off at her daughter’s coffee shop in Bromsgrove.

White House manager, Caroline Webb said: “Sharon has raised a significant amount for our general funds and we are immensely grateful for her efforts.

“It was an incredible challenge to tackle and we’d like to say a big thank you to her for such a generous gift."
