MORE than 100 cub scouts and 40 leaders from across Dudley helped to celebrate the centenary of the organisation.

The Jungle Jam 100 camp saw the youngsters camped out at Blackwell Adventure Centre in Bromsgrove last weekend with more than 1,140 other cubs and volunteers.

The cub packs from Dudley, Lower Gornal and Sedgley took part in numerous activities, including archery, climbing, caving, zorbing, zip wire, 3G swing, and swimming.

Georgia Head, aged 10, from the 3rd Sedgley cub pack, said: “Camping is my favourite activity and it was great to spend two nights away from home.

"I tried lots of new things whilst at this camp like the 4G swing and the zip wire.

"This has been the best camp I have been to as a cub scout."

The theme of the weekend was the ‘Jungle Book’ with the youngsters watching the popular film on the Friday night before settling into their tents for the night.

Following a day full of activities on the Saturday, an evening fancy dress party was held where everyone dressed up as characters from Rudyard Kipling's classic, before a closing ceremony ended the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

Gary Garfield, a leader with the 3rd Sedgley cub pack, said: “I love seeing the fun the children have doing activities and challenges not usually on offer elsewhere.

"Sharing the children’s laughter is the best feeling available."
