THE inquest has been opened into the death of a pensioner whose Netherton home was gutted by flames.
Despite attempts to rescue her, the body of the 67-year-old Gillian Howard was found in the front room of her Spring Road property on May 19.
The Black Country Coroners Court, sitting at Oldbury today (Tuesday), heard that Mrs Howard had lived with her daughter Nicola, who was her primary carer as she had restricted mobility due to a spinal injury and was also being treated for breast cancer.
The fire had broke out in Mrs Howard's converted ground floor bedroom, where the pair had both slept.
The cause has not yet been made public but West Midlands Police has confirmed it was not being treated as suspicious.
The preliminary cause of death has been given as inhaling the products of combustion.
A full hearing will take place on September 29.
