SEDGLEY author and poet Raymond Thomas Edwards has produced his own CD, which includes a song about his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers, to help raise funds for Lanesfield Royal British Legion.

It's the latest in a series of fundraisers by the 79-year-old, of Queens Road, who was diagnosed with prostrate cancer last November.

Raymond has penned two tracks, one entitled 'The Fan's Dream', which is based on a poster he created for Wolves back in 2003 to celebrate their promotion to the Premiership and another called 'I'm Lonely'.

He said: "Having reached the ripe old age of 79, my time is running out. 'I'm Lonely' is two words mentioned a lot by friends who have lost their partners.

"Those two words, plus events that have happened in previous years, gave me the inspiration to write the poem. I have always dreamed about putting music to my poems.

"The only snag was the fact I hadn't got a clue about music."

To solve the problem, he got in touch with musician Julian Woodcock, of Lakeside Piano Studios in Stourbridge, who helped put his poems to music.

Raymond faced another hurdle as he can't sing for toffee, so he helped to form an amateur group called the JJS Duo, which comprises of his daughter Janice and grandson James to perform the tracks.

The former electrical engineer, who has seen many of his short stories and poems published over the years, added: "I knew if I didn't do the CD now, I never would and I hope people will support it.

"Because of my own battle with cancer, I haven't really been able to promote the CD. I was at death's door at one point in a diabetic coma. I can't thank the staff at New Cross Hospital enough, without them and the treatment I've received, I would have been dead."

The CD costs £3 and with each one sold, a donation will go to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.
