A JEWELLERS is giving Dudley's most disastrous daters the chance to win £2,000 towards their romantic Valentine's celebrations.

Beaverbrooks at intu Merry Hill will also throw in a 'Valentine's consultant' to help clueless couples turn their romantic fortunes around, after finding that 56 per cent of women have been disappointed with their partner’s efforts on Valentine’s Day in the past.

The family-owned jewellers found that one in five women have resorted to organising their own Valentine’s date, or even buying their own card or present because they knew their partner wouldn’t put in the effort.

A staggering 46 per cent of men admit they often leave it until the last minute to get their partner a card or gift, with a quarter saying they have forgotten it completely at least once in the past.

While women’s dream gifts include jewellery, flowers and chocolate or a nice night out, many have been left disappointed after receiving kitchenware, a novelty present or clothes in the wrong size.

Some of the worst-ever gifts included a tin of baked beans, a live tarantula, an ironing board cover and a plastic toy sheep.

Off the back of the findings, the jewellers has launched a romantic new service to give one lucky couple a Valentine’s Day they’ll remember forever.

The consultant will be on hand to help them plan their perfect day – from booking restaurants and romantic activities to choosing the ideal piece of jewellery or watch for their loved one.

Natalie James, store manager at Beaverbrooks, said: “For many couples, Valentine’s Day is the most romantic date in the calendar, so it’s surprising to see just how many people are left feeling let down with their partner’s efforts on the day.

“To avoid a disappointing Valentine’s Day this year, we wanted to offer Dudley’s most disastrous dater the chance to have a consultant help plan their day and gift for them.

“From booking a candle lit dinner, to helping them pick a special and meaningful Beaverbrooks gift for their significant other – the new service will ensure this year is an occasion to remember, for all the right reasons.”

To be in with a chance of winning, couples should visit www.beaverbrooks.co.uk/vip before Thursday (February 9) and explain why they think they, or their partner, would benefit from the service.
