A CREATIVE mum has come up with a cracking idea to raise cash for charity.

Kellie Bates from Lower Gornal is making Easter bonnets and selling them to busy parents and carers who lack the time or talent to create them.

The mum-of-three spent years putting together bonnets for her family and friends, but last year decided to branch out and offer her services via a Facebook page, Kel's Easter bonnets.

A percentage of profits made from her hobby will once again be donated to the Williams Syndrome Foundation.

She was keen to support the charity as her son, Matthew, who attends Woodsetton School, has the rare disorder, caused by an abnormality in chromosomes.

Kellie, who is the five-year-old's carer, said: "The foundation provides much needed support and advice to families like ours. They also organise days out, fund valuable research into the condition and raise awareness so it is lovely for me to be able to give a little back.

"This year I am hoping to beat last year's donation of £200."

Kellie, who is also mum to Chloe, aged six and two-year-old Katie, has around 60 different designs available, ranging from traditional bunnies, lambs and scarecrows to themed bonnets, featuring characters from Frozen, My Little Pony and Star Wars.

She said: "I provide a service to many parents and carers who do not have the time to make such a showpiece, do not have the creativity or, after trying to make one it didn't turn out the way they would have liked.

"I have received such lovely comments so far this year from parents saying that I have taken the stress away for them and that it's a relief to have found me - they want the best for their children and they are so grateful of my service.

"What I find very special is the look on the children's faces when I deliver their bonnet, they light up and it's so humbling that I can help parents and carers in this way.

"I absolutely love making each and every bonnet."
