A DUDLEY cancer charity has received a cash boost thanks to a kind-hearted Netherton man.

Carl Bottley decided to raise funds for White House Cancer Support after hearing how staff had helped his drinking buddy Richard Harrington, while he was undergoing treatment for the disease.

The seasoned fundraiser organised an event at the Netherton Sports and Social Club on March 30, which saw five singers, including a Rod Stewart tribute act, perform to a crowd of more than 100 people.

Through ticket sales, an auction and a raffle, £1,746 was raised on the night, with an extra £403 being donated since - bringing the total to £2,149.

Carl, who wished to thank everyone who attended and the acts, who performed free of charge, handed over the cheque to the charity this morning (Wednesday).

Caroline Webb, the charity's manager, said: "The public do quite a lot of fundraising for us, for which we are always grateful. We appreciate the time people take to do this for us.

"The money Carl has raised will be spent on developing the services we have here so we can support more people - both patients and carers."
