THOUSANDS of people flocked to Netherton Park's fun day, which organisers say was the "biggest and best yet".

The free family event, which is now in its twelfth year, included children's rides, quad bikes, a giant inflatable slide, more than 50 classic car on display and stalls selling bric-a-brac, crafts and jewellery.

Dudley Zoo, Central Ferret Welfare and Brockswood Animal Sanctuary brought along a number of animals for people to see and West Midlands Fire Service held regular chip pan fire demos.

An outdoor stage was set up behind Netherton Arts Centre and hosted a variety of acts - including bands, dancers, cheerleaders and a karate group - who performed until 9pm.

Event organiser, Richard Johnson, said: "It was a brilliant day. We had more stalls, more activities and more visitors - I'd say we had well over 7,000 people turn up - and we were blessed with the weather.

"It was nice to see so many kids and families enjoying themselves, there was something for everyone.

"The charity stalls made in excess of £800 a piece, so that was absolutely fantastic for them, the outdoor stage went down well and Black Country Classic Car Club had the biggest turnout of cars that they have ever had."

The success of the event has spurred Mr Johnson to set a date for next year's fun day - Saturday, July 7.
