A DANCEATHON at a Brierley Hill school has raised more than £7,000 for Mary Stevens Hospice.

Students and staff at Peter's Hill Primary School held the all-day event last month to mark International Dance Day.

The £7,200 they raised is enough to pay for the Oldswinford hospice to run in its entirety for one whole day - covering everything from the tea bags to the 22 charity shops across the West Midlands.

Teacher and event organiser, Beth Reed, said: “The children boogied, bopped and jived their way through the day to a variety of musical tastes.

"All the pupils had an amazing time and enjoyed showing off their latest dance techniques and routines.

"Everyone had a fantastic day both pupils and teachers alike joined in, we are delighted with the amount of money the children have raised.”

Charlotte Schofield, the hospice's head of fundraising and lottery, added: "We're so privileged to receive the support of the young people in our community and what the staff and students at Peter's Hill have achieved through this danceathon is nothing short of remarkable.

"It's such a fun, engaging and creative way of supporting their local hospice and we're humbled by their contribution to our families.

"It goes without saying that a sum of money like that makes an utterly incredible impact here, and on behalf of all of the families that money will help we just want to say thank you so much."
