A DUDLEY man who stole a laptop from a parked car after being spotted trying doors on a house in the town has been jailed for a year.

Judge Michael Challinor told 32-year-old Steven Griffin he had a "very bad" criminal record and he had to be sent to prison even though he failed to gain access to the property.

He said Griffin, of Brook Street, was also on licence from prison at the time having been given a suspended jail term for offences including burglary and fraud.

Griffin admitted attempted burglary and theft at a time when, said Laura Culley defending, he was having financial troubles.

He was having problems sorting out his benefits and he also had a debt to his drug dealer although he was now drug free, she told Wolverhampton Crown Court.

"Griffin has had enough of prison and he is now determined to stay out of trouble in the future and remain drug free," she added.
