Pub raffle to boost appeal

REGULARS at a Netherton pub are being urged to dig deep and buy raffle tickets to help Kaysie’s Appeal.

Five-year-old Kaysie Bland suffers from cerebral palsy and epilepsy, which left her unable to walk, talk or eat since birth.

Since launching her campaign nearly two years ago, Dudley News readers have raised thousands of pounds for Kaysie, enabling mum Jane, of Hockley Lane, Netherton, to buy her daughter the expensive essential disability equipment she needs.

With the money raised to date, Jane has been able to buy Kaysie a specialist trike, a disability child seat and a walking frame, as well as transforming Kaysie’s bedroom into an interactive sensory room, complete with fibre optic carpet, tunnels, fibre optic strands and bubble lamps.

However, now the family need to raise money for a £6,000 deposit to buy a new specially adapted disability car, which has a ramp at the back, to allow Kaysie to be easily wheeled in while in her wheelchair.

A car is vital for Jane to enable her to get Kaysie around, not only to appointments and family visits but for trips to the seaside.

The vehicle has to be big enough not only for Jane and Kaysie but also her wheelchair and all the other equipment Jane needs to continually ferry around with her.

Jane has already been awarded £3,300 towards the cost from the mobility fund and has sold a lot of her own personal items but still needs to raise at least another £3,000.

To raise the money, Jane has joined forces with The Yew Tree Inn, in Hockley Lane, with landlady Martine Higginson agreeing to hold a raffle in the pub until September 5.

Tickets are £1 a strip and prizes on offer include a large Disney toy, a bottle of wine, a bottle of whisky and a two-course Sunday lunch for four people at the pub.

Jane said: “I want to say a big thank you to Martine for allowing the raffle to take place and to Rolans Florist, who wrapped all the prizes for free for me.

“Hopefully people will buy tickets to help us raise the deposit for the car.”

To donate to the appeal, send cheques payable to Kaysie Bland to Kaysie Bland Appeal, Dudley News, St John’s House, St John’s Road, Stourbridge DY8 1EH.
