GREENFINGERED residents from around the borough have been rewarded for their dedication to their local green spaces.
At a Dudley Council awards ceremony for green space volunteers, Ivor Lucas, 80, was awarded the lifetime achievement award by the council’s park development team to honour all the work he does for the Friends of Netherton Park.
Ivor is now the group chairman but has been supporting the group since its formation.
Also rewarded was Alan Stevens, who was handed the walk leader of 2009 for his commitment to Himley walks, as well as his regular support of walks in Saltwells and The Leasowes in Halesowen.
The Friends of Cotwall End Valley took home the hardest working group accolade for all the work they do with volunteers, as they continually strive to improve the valley and keep it tidy and safe for visitors.
And a special achievement award was presented to Marianne Diller for all her work as an ambassador for The Leasowes.
Congratulating the award winners, Councillor David Stanley, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “The Friends of Parks groups continue to support their local areas throughout the year and I’d like to thank everyone for their commitment.
“These awards are a great way to appreciate the work done by the many volunteers from across the borough.”
