DUDLEY North MP Ian Austin has welcomed the council’s U-turn over cutting a Woodsetton grass verge – but is urging residents to keep their eyes peeled in case similar services are cut elsewhere in the borough.
In May, Mr Austin demanded Dudley Council change its decision after it stopped cutting the grass verges in Parkes Hall Road.
The piece of land had been tended by council staff for more than 40 years – since the houses were built – and theMP spoke out after council bosses wrote to residents telling them the grass between their front garden walls and the pavements would no longer be cut.
As a result of Mr Austin’s calls, the council has cut the grass and promised to continue to tend to the area in the future.
Mr Austin said: “I think the council’s recent decision to leave people on Parkes Hall Road to fend for themselves and tend large areas of public space was ridiculous and unfair.
“That is why I am so glad that the council has gone back on its decision.
“Several residents on this road are over 80 years old and it is completely unreasonable to expect them to take responsibility for the maintenance of this area.
