HUNDREDS of Dudley bargain hunters queued outside a new budget supermarket which opened its doors this morning.

From as early as 6am shoppers began queuing outside the doors of the new Aldi store on Peartree Lane for their chance of getting their hands on a special golden ticket, before the store was officially by Mayor of Dudley, councillor Pat Martin at 9am.

To celebrate the opening, Aldi gave out the VIP tickets to the first 100 people in the queue, which contained a voucher to redeem a free gift.

Prizes on offer included a digital camera, Sat Nav, camcorder, MP3 player, £20 and £10 bags of Aldi shopping and some of Aldi’s wine and chocolates.

Lucky shopper, Stephen Riley, from Dudley took home the star prize - a notebook laptop.

Store Manager, Louise Bucknall, said: “There was a fantastic buzz down at the store this morning. It was great to see so many faces down here for the big opening event.

"While DJ host, Simon Soude entertained the crowds, the team and I were only too pleased to introduce shoppers to Aldi’s extensive range of products at affordable prices. I look forward to welcoming even more customers to our new store over the coming weeks.”

Shoppers who missed out on the golden tickets can still get their hands on a special buys which include a 26 inch LCD TV at £179.99, 12MP digital cameras priced £49.99, 5MP HD Camcorders at £59.99, and selected garden accessories and tools from just £2.99.
