PRIMATES at Dudley Zoo are stepping in colour-coded tags, as part of a study into social behaviour.
The ring-tailed lemurs and black and white ruffed lemurs, along with the squirrel monkeys have been adorned with brightly coloured collars and necklaces so keepers at the Castle Hill site can easily identify them and observe their behaviour and interaction.
Senior curator, Derek Grove, said: "Many universities use a similar colour-coded method to identify primates from a distance when they are carrying out scientific studies as it saves having to pick them up to examine their microchips. It also helps in identifying troublemakers within the group."
