£1 a day poverty challenge for Brockmoor's Adam

A 22 YEAR-old Brockmoor man is living below the poverty line this week in a challenge to highlight Christian Aid.

Adam Hadley is spending just £1 on food and drink each day to get an insight into how the world’s poorest communities survive on so little, as well as raising funds for ongoing Christian Aid projects.

Adam, who is currently spending a gap year working with young people at Quinton Methodist Church, was inspired to take part in the challenge after taking part in a Christian Aid 12-day visit to Tajikistan in January.

He said: “The visit really had an impact on me. The generosity of the people there was beyond belief. They had so little, but gave us every little thing they had. They are people who do actually live on £1 a day and they spent it all on us.

“It was really humbling and made me think about things in a different way.

“I think it will be extremely difficult to cope with just £1 a day, so I’m going to have to shop around.”

The former Pensnett School of Technology pupil is hoping to raise £200 towards the work of Christian Aid. Last year more than £1m was raised worldwide from people carrying out the challenge.
