Borough to join in national Jubilee celebrations

THE Dudley borough will join in national celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with the lighting of an official beacon on Monday night.

The VIP-only event will take place in the grounds of Dudley Castle shortly after 10pm on Monday, June 4 and form the chain of fire being lit around the country, before The Queen lights the final beacon in London at 10.30pm.

Halesowen schoolboy, Dominic Macgowen, a year seven student at Leasowes Community College, who is the youngest Olympic torchbearer in the country, will light the beacon alongside the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Melvyn Mottram.

The event will also be attended by the borough’s other Olympic torchbearers.
