OUTLINE plans for a multi-million pound vibrant retail development in Dudley town centre have been submitted to council planners.

The application, which is being developed by Avenbury, which owns part of Cavendish Quarter and vacant land next to the bus station, will be known as Porters Field if given the go ahead and will include a supermarket, new shops and a restaurant, a six-pump petrol station and a two-storey car park for more than 500 cars, all set within a landscaped public area.

The ambitious plans also include creating a public square and linking Churchill Shopping Centre and Birdcage Walk with the Cavendish Quarter site by changing the layout of Trindle Road and creating a new access road which will run parallel to Dudley Bypass.

Shoppers have already given the thumbs up to the plans, which went on public show last month.

Ed Grieve, spokesman for Avenbury, said: “We have already received a considerable amount of support for the plans and the submission is an important step in bringing more jobs and investment to Dudley.

We are keen to progress this project and deliver a vibrant new shopping quarter which acts as a catalyst for regeneration in the town centre.”

The application is the second lot of plans to be submitted to Dudley Council’s planners for the same site, after Abstract’s Cavendish Quarter Properties submitted alternative proposals for a multi-million pound food store a few months ago.
