Garden shed burglaries prompts security advice
12:00pm Saturday 15th September 2012 in Local
FOLLOWING a spate of burglaries to garden sheds and garages in Holly Hall and Woodside , police are offering advice to residents.
During the recent warm weather, opportunist thieves have been taking advantage of unsecured outbuildings in the area, making off with numerous items such as lawnmowers, strimmers, electrical goods and even fridge freezers and fridges.
Pc Matt Barnsley from the Netherton , Woodside and St Andrews neighbourhood team, said: "We are doing all we can to tackle these offences by actively targeting our patrols in these areas as well as offering reassurance and crime reduction advice to local residents"
To keep items safe, police are advising residents to make sure sheds are locked with a padlock.
Chain cycles, mowers, ladders and tools together inside the shed and visably mark property with a postcode.
Officers also advise residents to put net curtains up to shed windows and consider installing a battery powered shed alarm.
